Special notice to vehicle owners

The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has issued an important notice to all vehicle owners and buyers who are using vehicles that have not yet been registered under their own names.
Register Your Vehicle Immediately
The DMT urges the public to register vehicles purchased in their own names without delay. According to the Motor Traffic Commissioner, buyers must complete the registration process within 14 days of purchase to avoid penalties.
Fines for Delayed Registration
When a seller officially notifies the Department that their vehicle has been sold, a fine will be imposed on the new owner if the vehicle is not registered under their name within the required 14-day period. This measure aims to ensure accountability and proper record-keeping of vehicle ownership in the country.
Impact of CCTV Traffic Monitoring
The DMT further warned that vehicles not registered in the correct owner’s name could cause serious inconvenience under the ongoing pilot project by the police. This project monitors traffic violations using CCTV cameras and issues fines directly to the registered owner of the vehicle. As a result, if a vehicle remains registered under the previous owner’s name, that individual may incorrectly receive traffic violation fines caused by the new owner.
Public Reminder
In light of these developments, the Department of Motor Traffic strongly advises all vehicle owners to update their registration details immediately to avoid unnecessary fines or legal complications.
