The SEALION 8 Dynamic's size is likely to matter more in Colombo than its performance. At 5,040 mm long and 1,996 mm wide, it requires more room than a typical midsize SUV, although the 5.9 m turning radius, 360-degree camera and parking sensors should help with low-speed manoeuvring. The Dynamic also has 184 mm of ground clearance and 255/50 R20 tyres, figures worth considering around sharp road edges, speed humps and basement ramps.
For families, ISOFIX, three-zone AC, rear ceiling vents and 270–1,960 litres of configurable luggage space are useful, but the third row remains better suited to children or occasional passengers. Regular home charging will make the strongest use of the 103 km NEDC electric-range claim. For longer trips, the petrol-hybrid system means public charging does not have to dictate the route.
Ownership Confidence
The SEALION 8 has clear official backing in Sri Lanka. John Keells CG Auto is BYD's authorised distributor, and by May 2026 its service footprint included six cities, a body shop with capacity for more than 100 vehicles and a 10,000 sqm spare-parts warehouse.
That infrastructure should not be confused with proven long-term ownership quality. The SEALION 8 has only been sold locally since March 2026, and MotorGuide could not verify model-specific long-term reliability, resale performance, insurance costs or published scheduled-service pricing. Recent BYD owner reviews also contain recurring complaints about after-sales responsiveness, cost and repair delays; these are owner allegations rather than independently verified service-performance data.
