Cabinet decision on vehicle import

Cabinet Media Spokesperson Minister Bandula Gunawardena says that the Cabinet has received approval to submit the regulations for importing vehicles required for the tourism industry to Parliament.
The import of motor vehicles into Sri Lanka has been temporarily suspended in accordance with the Import and Export Control Regulations No. 2 of 2023.
However, as per a proposal submitted by the Minister of Tourism and Lands, approval was granted at the Cabinet meeting held on April 01, 2024, to import 250 small buses and 75 vans to transport tourists.
The proposal submitted by the President as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies to submit the said regulations, which were published in a special gazette notification, to Parliament for approval, was approved by the Cabinet. Yes.
The Import and Export (Control) Regulations No. 07 of 2024 issued under the Import and Export (Control) Act No. 1 of 1969 and the Standardization and Quality Control Regulations issued under the said Act are hereby submitted for parliamentary approval.
