Special notice from the Department of Motor Vehicles

Commissioner General of Motor Transport Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasinghe has announced that starting from the 4th of this month, it will be mandatory to book a date and time in advance to obtain services from any Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) office across the island.
Advance Booking Now Required

Citizens will now need to make an appointment before visiting any DMT branch for services such as vehicle registration, license renewal, or other administrative tasks.
How to Book an Appointment
The Department has introduced both an automated telephone service and an online booking system for public convenience.
Option 1: Telephone Booking
- Dial the automated hotline 2 117 116.
- Select the service you wish to obtain.
- Enter your telephone number and National Identity Card (NIC) number when prompted.
- Once completed, you will receive an SMS confirmation containing the date, time, and location of your appointment.
Option 2: Online Booking
Alternatively, you can make an appointment online via the official website:

Purpose of the New System
The Commissioner General noted that this initiative is part of the department’s digital transformation efforts, aimed at enhancing public convenience and reducing waiting times.
