Overview

Looking for a compact 7-seater that fits family duty without moving into a larger van? The Nissan Gravite is positioned in Sri Lanka as a new small MPV for buyers who need three rows, rear AC, flexible luggage space and agent support. It suits school runs and light family travel, but its modest 1.0-litre engine sets clear limits.

Pros

Official Sri Lankan launch and revised pricing reduce uncertainty compared with unsupported imports.

7-seat cabin layout gives families more flexibility than a normal 5-seat hatchback or compact SUV.

625 litres of boot space in 5-seat mode is useful for school bags, groceries and weekend luggage.

6 airbags plus ESC, TCS and HSA give the Gravite a stronger safety equipment base for family use.

Claimed 19.6 km/l for the AMT supports lower running-cost expectations than larger petrol MPVs.

Cons

“Tekna Plus” is not confirmed as an official Sri Lankan trim, so buyers must verify the exact grade.

72 PS and 96 Nm are modest for a 7-seater, especially with passengers, luggage and AC use.

84 litres of boot space in 7-seat mode limits airport runs and long trips with all seats occupied.

The AMT is convenience-focused, not as smooth as a CVT or torque-converter automatic in traffic.

No Gravite-specific crash-test rating could be verified, so safety should be judged by equipment, not stars.

Driver Insights

4
out of 5

Based on official specifications, local launch information, and early regional market impressions, the Nissan Gravite Tekna AMT is best viewed as a practical family MPV rather than a performance-focused 7-seater. Its main strengths are the flexible seating layout, rear AC coverage, compact size, standard safety equipment, and official local backing. The 1.0-litre engine and AMT transmission should suit Colombo commuting, school runs, and light family travel, but the vehicle may feel strained with seven passengers, luggage, AC use, and hill-country climbs. It is better suited to buyers who value space, running-cost control, and ownership support over strong acceleration.

Exterior Design

Early Sri Lankan market positioning presents the Gravite as a compact MPV with stronger visual presence than a basic people-mover. LED lighting, C-shaped design details, roof rails and Launch Edition add-ons help it look less utilitarian, which matters for family buyers who also care about image.
