Vehicles emitting excessive smoke to be blacklisted

The Department of Motor Vehicles' Vehicle Emissions Trust Fund says it will take steps to blacklist vehicles that emit excessive smoke.
Its director stated that complaints regarding such vehicles plying on the road can be directed to the WhatsApp number 070 3500 525.
The director urges drivers not to obtain a smoke certificate solely for the purpose of obtaining a vehicle license.
Although many people are tempted to obtain a smoke certificate through fraudulent means, he said that police officers and Department of Motor Vehicles officers conduct relevant inspections in all parts of the island when such vehicles are plying on the road.
In that case, if it is observed that excessive smoke is emitted, a maintenance order will be issued against the owner of the vehicle, and if not, a prohibition order will be issued against the vehicle.
