Overview

Looking for a large SUV with extensive comfort and safety equipment? The 2025 JAECOO J8 targets buyers prioritising space, technology, and AWD capability over proven resale history. Sri Lanka now has authorised support, although 2025 vehicles may predate the local launch. MotorGuide has not driven it. Driving observations therefore rely on independent published road tests.

Pros

The 245 hp output supports a quoted 9.0-second 0–100 km/h time. This provides useful expressway performance.

Ten airbags and a 540-degree camera provide broad protection and parking assistance on the official specification.

The seven-year or 150,000 km warranty limits early repair exposure on eligible authorised vehicles.

AWD and seven drive modes provide additional traction options for rain, loose surfaces, and outstation travel.

Cons

Official urban consumption is 11.4 L/100 km, while the engine requires 95-octane petrol.

Its 4,820 mm length and 1,930 mm width reduce convenience in narrow Colombo locations.

Conflicting official seating information creates uncertainty for buyers needing a third row.

Independent tests reported gearbox hesitation, gear shuffling, and slower responses on inclines or during overtaking.

No independent ANCAP safety rating could be confirmed for the J8 petrol model.

Driver Insights

4
out of 5

Based on published road tests and early market impressions, the 2025 JAECOO J8 is generally described as a comfort-focused large SUV rather than a sporty driver’s car. Reviewers highlight its quiet cabin, strong turbo-petrol performance, spacious interior, and stable highway behaviour. However, some tests report delayed gearbox responses, unnecessary gear changes, and abrupt lane-assistance intervention. For Sri Lankan buyers, it appears better suited to family travel, expressway use, and longer outstation journeys than tight urban driving.

Exterior Design

Published reviews describe the J8 as cleanly styled, substantial, and visually distinct. Its road presence suits open roads, but the 1,930 mm width requires care in Colombo.
