Overview

The Toyota Yaris was introduced as the newest sibling to the Toyota Vitz subcompact hatchback, which was in production from 1995 to 2019. Since 2020, the Yaris has continued this legacy as the 4th generation of Toyota’s subcompact hatchback line. Although the Yaris is very popular in Sri Lanka today, owners and dealers note that it really started to appear in the local market around the time the COVID-19 pandemic began. The first Toyota Yaris model that arrived in the country after vehicle imports restarted is what we now know as the Toyota Yaris 2024. If you are planning to buy a new vehicle soon, make sure to read this review till the end to understand whether this car truly matches the value of the money you pay.

Driver Insights

4
out of 5

Among local Toyota Yaris owners, the 2024 model is generally seen as a calm, predictable companion rather than an exciting driver’s car. Steering is light and user-friendly for tight parking and quick turns in city traffic, while straight-line stability at typical expressway speeds is described as reassuring in many user comments. When pushed hard, the engine and CVT do become more vocal, but at normal commuting speeds the powertrain feels smooth enough for daily use. Putting this feedback together, the Yaris comes across as easy to drive, easy to maintain, and well-matched to drivers who prioritise peace of mind and practicality over outright performance.

Exterior Design
The key exterior highlights of the Toyota Yaris 2024 include a large front grille, winker mirrors, slightly flared wide fenders, a rear spoiler, and C-HR–style reverse lights. These are often mentioned positively in local owners. However, even in popular Japanese trims commonly found in Sri Lanka, such as the X or the slightly higher G grade, LED headlights are not standard. In contrast, the more expensive UK Design trim comes with LED lights and several additional features. Considering that the G grade is priced above 10 million LKR in Sri Lanka, some local buyers feel the feature list can be a bit limited for the money. At the same time, there is good room for customization depending on the trim you choose – including options like upgraded lights, a rear spoiler, alloy wheels, exterior garnishes, a moonroof, mudflaps, and power-folding mirrors, which many owners add later based on their preferences.
