Focus on Measuring Vehicle Emissions

Motor Traffic Commissioner General Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasinghe states that vehicle smoke is the cause of about 70% of air pollution in the Colombo District reaching an unhealthy level.
He further stated at an event held in Colombo to educate traffic police officers that a mechanism for measuring air emissions while vehicles are in operation will be developed in the future.
Motor Traffic Commissioner General Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasinghe,
"The Colombo District has reached an unhealthy level in terms of air emissions. The smoke emitted by vehicles contributes 60% to 70% to this. If a vehicle is emitting smoke on the road, the public can WhatsApp us a photo of it. We are also creating a WhatsApp group by bringing together all police stations in Sri Lanka. Through this, just the number of any vehicle seen on the road will be enough for us. We can take action by obtaining prohibition orders. Without this, it is difficult to control it. Inspection activities will also be improved in the future."
