Permission to Import Electric Vehicles to Sri Lanka

Although vehicle imports were restricted to the country, the Sri Lankan government took steps to facilitate the import of electric cars starting last year.

Any Sri Lankan citizen living, working, or holding dual citizenship in a foreign country meets the basic qualifications for this. Accordingly, a permit (vehicle permit) required for importing an electric vehicle (electric vehicle) into the country will be issued to Sri Lankans sending foreign currency (foreign remittance) through legal channels.

If you have sent US$ 3,000 or more per month, you will receive a permit (vehicle permit) to import an electric motorcycle (electric motorcycle).

If US$ 20,000 or more has been sent, and 50% of the sent amount has been converted to Sri Lankan Rupees, a permit (vehicle permit) to import an electric car (electric car) will be granted.
