School Transport Service — Sri Lanka Police

Sri Lanka Police is set to take a series of strict measures against dilapidated vehicles transporting schoolchildren, stated Mr. Manoj Ranagala, Chief Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Police Traffic Division.
The Assistant Superintendent of Police said that many buses operating as school transport services were found to be buses that had been removed from passenger transport services due to their unusable condition.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Ranagala stated that vans used for school services are also in a similar condition, emphasizing that strict measures must be taken due to very poor maintenance.
He also mentioned that prohibitory orders were issued in this regard after a survey conducted with the support of Deputy Inspectors General of Police and motor vehicle inspectors.
Emphasizing that this is a serious problem, Assistant Superintendent of Police Ranagala stated that innocent lives are being lost due to the lack of safety procedures.
