Bank Card Payments for Bus Fares from November

Commuters will be able to pay bus fares using bank-issued credit and debit cards from 24 November 2025, Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Bimal Rathnayake has announced.

The new payment facility will be available on all buses equipped with electronic ticket-issuing machines.

The Minister revealed the initiative while delivering a statement in Parliament.

The move aims to modernise the public transport sector and enhance convenience for passengers across the country.
