Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake announced that bus commuters will be able to pay fares using bank-issued credit and debit cards from 30 November 2025.
The new system will be available on buses that are equipped with the necessary ticket-issuing machines.
Minister Rathnayake, who also holds the portfolio for Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation, made the announcement last week, marking a step towards digital payments for public transport.
