Who are pedestrians? Simply put, anyone walking on the road is a pedestrian. To reduce road accidents, both drivers and pedestrians must cooperate. Today, MotorGuide explains the important traffic rules every pedestrian should know.

Walk on the Right Side of the Road

When walking on the road, always walk on the right-hand side. This allows you to see oncoming vehicles clearly. Never walk on the left side, as it increases your risk of accidents.

Cross Only at Pedestrian Crossings

You should not cross the road anywhere you like. Use only designated pedestrian crossings marked with white or yellow lines. These areas are safer because drivers expect pedestrians there.

Look Right, Then Left, Then Right Again

Before crossing the road, follow the golden rule: look right → look left → look right again. Stay alert and avoid distractions such as using your phone or headphones while crossing. Safety comes first.

Use Sidewalks When Available

If a sidewalk or footpath is available, always use it. Many pedestrians ignore sidewalks and walk on the road, which increases the risk of accidents. Walking on sidewalks is the safest option.

Follow General Road Rules

Even as a pedestrian, you are part of road traffic. Obey signals, traffic lights, and road signs. Remember, road safety is a shared responsibility.

Stay Alert and Walk Sensibly

Always stay focused while walking. Avoid distractions and pay attention to your surroundings. A small mistake can lead to major accidents, so walk with awareness and caution.

These are the essential pedestrian rules you must follow to ensure your safety on the road. By making these practices a habit, you protect yourself and contribute to safer roads for everyone.
