Qualifications you need to complete to get a license

The most basic qualification you need to complete to apply for a license is the age limit. There is an age limit to apply for a license. If you are 17 years old, whether you are a boy or a girl, you can definitely apply for a driving license. Not only that, your medical report must also be passed. Accordingly, primary vision must be at a very good level. In addition, you must have a national identity card.

What do you need to get a driving license?

To apply for a driving license, we need to have several documents.

These are:

  • ID or Passport
  • Original birth certificate
  • Medical report

How to apply for a license?

You can apply for a license with the documents we mentioned. There are two methods for this. One is applying to the Department of Motor Traffic. The other is applying through a learner's permit. If you have a vehicle, or if you have received some driver training, you can go to the Department of Motor Traffic as a private applicant and apply for a license.

Types of Tests

When obtaining a driving license in Sri Lanka, you need to face and pass two tests. These two tests are the theory test and the driving test.

The Theory Test

In this test, you need to answer 40 multiple-choice questions. To pass the theory test, you need to provide correct answers to 30 questions. You can take this test in all languages used in Sri Lanka. You will only have 45 minutes to answer this test.

Reasons for Failing the Driving Test

A common mistake student drivers make during the driving test is driving too cautiously or being unsure of themselves. Other factors also contribute to failing the driving test.

  • Lack of understanding of gear selection

    When driving, we need to be in the appropriate gear for the speed we are going. If it's too high or too low, the vehicle might jerk or even stall. This is a major reason why many people fail.

  • Not checking side mirrors
  • Lack of steering control
  • Incorrect use of vehicle lights
  • Not checking the road properly

All these are important points you should remember during the driving test. Because these are the things that cause you to fail the driving license test. If you are also applying for a driving license, you must definitely pay attention to the points we mentioned to pass these two tests. If you do that, you can pass the driving license test without any problems.
