Driving License Services Disrupted Today; New Dates Announced for Missed Exams

The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has announced that its driving license computer system remains partially non-functional today (December 1) due to repairs following a breakdown caused by adverse weather.
While technical teams work to fully restore the system, the Department has issued special guidelines for the public regarding services today and the rescheduling of missed appointments.
Service Disruptions
Online services, including the printing of driving licenses, accepting new applications, and license renewals, will not be available today at the Werahera Head Office and the online district offices in Kurunegala, Kalutara, Hambantota, Gampaha, Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Monaragala, Kandy, Galle, and Ampara.
Services Available Today (December 01)
Despite the system failure, the following services will proceed at Werahera and other offices today:
- Driving Trials: Practical driving exams will be held as scheduled.
- Written Exams: Will be conducted using traditional paper-based question papers instead of the computer system at all offices starting today.
- Permit Extensions: Extending temporary driving permits.
- Offline Offices: Services at district offices not connected to the online network will continue as usual.
- Vehicle Transfers: Vehicle registration and ownership transfers are unaffected.
Rescheduling for Missed Exams & Appointments
The DMT has announced new dates for candidates who missed their Computer-based Written Exams at the Werahera office due to the weather:
- Exams originally scheduled for 2025.11.27 will now be held on 2025.12.08.
- Exams originally scheduled for 2025.11.28 will now be held on 2025.12.09. (Candidates should attend at the same time originally allocated in their booking document).
Grace Period for Missed Appointments
Clients who had time slots booked for November 27, 28, and December 01 but could not obtain services are granted a grace period. They may visit the respective office on any day within the next two weeks to obtain their services.
