DMT Grants Grace Period for Driving License Renewals Due to Adverse Weather
The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has announced a special grace period for renewing driving licenses, taking into account the difficulties faced by the public due to the prevailing adverse weather and natural disaster situations across the island.
According to a press release issued by the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, this grace period is granted for driving licenses that expire between November 25, 2025, and December 25, 2025.
The Department observed that many drivers have been unable to visit DMT offices on time to renew their licenses due to the bad weather. Consequently, the Sri Lanka Police and other relevant authorities have been informed not to consider driving with a license that expired during this specified period as a violation of traffic rules.
