Jeep Wrangler EV Reportedly Coming in 2028

The Jeep Wrangler is a compact and midsize four-wheel drive, off-road SUV series produced by Jeep since 1986, currently in its 4th generation. It is reported that the EV version of the Jeep Wrangler is scheduled to be unveiled in 2028, and new mid-size trucks are expected to arrive in 2027. Today, through MotorGuide weekly news, we are telling you about these latest unveilings.
Although the Jeep Wrangler is set to become an EV by 2028, it is reported that it will offer a hybrid model that uses a gas engine as a generator to replenish power while driving. Additionally, new mid-size truck models are expected to join the Dodge and Jeep lineups in 2027, which could see the return of the Dakota name.
Production at several factories in the United States was halted for weeks due to a strike. Stellantis and UAW recently reached an agreement to end the strike. A document revealing Stellantis' production plans for the next few years leaked on social media, indicating plans to transition trucks to electric power.
The document reveals that the current JL generation will remain at the Toledo assembly complex until 2028, with an upgrade to the popular 4xe plug-in-hybrid model in 2025. The next-generation Wrangler, codenamed J70, is slated to arrive in 2028 and is listed as an electric or plug-in-hybrid off-roader. This plug-in setup will differ from the current 4xe, as this series will operate as a hybrid where the motor acts as a generator to recharge the battery rather than powering the wheels directly.
Stellantis has invested $1.5 billion in its Belvidere factory in Illinois to produce new mid-size trucks in 2027, replacing the Gladiator. This plan includes both Jeep and Dodge branded models, and there is a possibility that the Dakota name could return.
Details regarding the powertrain are not mentioned. However, there are plans to produce 80,000 to 100,000 units annually. Additionally, a new battery plant with an investment of $3.2 billion is also being built in Belvidere.
Several models, such as the Jeep Compass, Jeep Renegade, Dodge Hornet, Chrysler Pacifica, and Ram ProMaster van, are not included in this list. Furthermore, there was no mention of the Recon concept, showcased in 2022, which was expected to arrive in 2024.
Even if you don't know it, new vehicles are being unveiled in the automotive world every day. Therefore, MotorGuide is ready to continuously keep you updated on the latest unveilings in the automotive world in the future.
