Nissan has officially taken the wraps off the latest generation of its iconic Patrol SUV, the Y63 model. In a bold move, the automaker has ditched the Patrol's traditional naturally aspirated V8 engine in favor of an all-new twin-turbocharged V6 powertrain.

The shift in powertrain marks a significant departure for the Patrol, which has long been known for its robust V8 heart. The new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine now produces a staggering 317 kW of power and 700 Nm of torque, figures that eclipse even the outgoing model's 298 kW and 560 Nm outputs.

This extra punch under the hood translates to improved performance, with the Y63 Patrol claiming the title of the most powerful iteration in the SUV's storied history. The new powertrain is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and Nissan's proven 4x4 system, ensuring that the Patrol retains its off-road capabilities.

For those seeking a more traditional experience, Nissan has also confirmed the availability of a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 petrol option in certain markets, although the output figures for this variant have not yet been disclosed.

Beyond the powertrain updates, the Y63 Patrol boasts a host of technological and interior enhancements. Adaptive air suspension, a 28.6-inch "Monolith" dual-screen infotainment system, and a premium 12-speaker Klipsch audio setup are just a few of the luxurious features on offer.

The cabin has also received a meticulous overhaul, with Nissan promising "exquisitely" quilted leather seats and detailing inspired by the traditional Japanese woodcraft technique, Kumiko.

"The all-new Patrol is a prime example of the exciting and empowering models we are delivering under our global business plan, 'The Arc'," said Makoto Uchida, Nissan's president and CEO. "The 7th generation is a bold leap forward, blending unparalleled performance, cutting-edge technology and a commanding presence to redefine what an SUV can be."
