There are many types of modifications. Some modifications require legal permission. There are also some modifications that are not good for the vehicle. Along with all these, there are modifications that should not be done to a vehicle. As a vehicle enthusiast, you should know what modifications are not good to do to a vehicle. That's why MotorGuide thought of telling you about it today.

Using Oversized Wheels

When a vehicle has large rims, it stands out. That's why many people put large rims on their vehicles. However, if your vehicle also has large rims, it becomes a big problem.

Especially when choosing wheels, going beyond the options provided by the manufacturer is not a good idea. To start, any change in wheels is detected by the speedometer, so it needs to be recalibrated. When there are large wheels, components like the powertrain and brakes have to work much harder. In such a situation, you will soon have to spend on a major repair. Increasing the wheel size causes the vehicle to rise slightly, efficiently affecting acceleration significantly. While increasing wheel size gives the vehicle a good look, this modification is not good for a vehicle due to the reasons mentioned earlier.

Heavy Window Tint

Heavy window tinting is a practical thing. Tinted windows can reduce the impact of sunlight on the driver's view. At the same time, passengers can remain unseen from outside. Legal books specify rules regarding the colors that can be tinted. Some relate to tint darkness. It's very easy to identify whether a vehicle's windows are tinted or not. So, the modification of heavy window tint is also not good for vehicles.

Modified Exhaust

Today, exhaust mods have become common. If you choose to change your vehicle's exhaust system or muffler, you will face two problems. The first is related to emissions. As an attempt to limit the damage vehicles do to the planet, various countries have implemented different laws limiting what can be emitted from a vehicle's tailpipe. If the vehicle's new exhaust does not comply with these standards, the motor vehicle cannot legally be driven on the road.

When talking about the noise emitted by the exhaust, various countries have enacted laws limiting that noise as well. As you may have seen, most exhaust mods exist only to make a vehicle as loud as possible. You need to have a good understanding of the decibel level emitted. If it exceeds the applicable limit, it is illegal. Also, this can often cause the manufacturer's warranty to be voided.

Raising or Lowering the Suspension

This is commonly seen with trucks and SUVs. However, many car owners decide to raise or lower their vehicle for various reasons. Some lower the vehicle to increase stability when cornering. Others raise the vehicle to improve its off-road performance.

Even raising the vehicle by a few inches severely impacts its handling and stability. Moreover, road accidents resulting from such a modification can have catastrophic consequences for the vehicle's general usage.

Lowering the vehicle can increase the risk of damage when driving up and down a slope or hitting a pothole. With this unnecessary mod, the trim, exhaust, or oil pan can be damaged very easily.

Changing the vehicle's height also leads to wheel alignment issues. Wheel alignment costs a lot of money. Wheel alignment issues can cause uneven tire wear, tracking issues, and the vehicle to try to shake if driven faster than 50 miles per hour. Considering these points, messing with the suspension is also not a good modification.

Today we told you about modifications that should not be done to a vehicle. Now you know very well why those modifications should not be done to a vehicle. Frankly, just as modifications have pros and cons, there are also modifications that should and should not be done to a vehicle. Various reasons influence these things. Sometimes it might be due to damage to the vehicle, or it might be illegal. However, never even think about doing the modifications we discussed today to a vehicle.
