A driving license is an essential document to legally drive a vehicle. Losing it can be stressful, especially if you drive regularly. Often, due to carelessness or accidents, licenses get misplaced. But don’t worry—today MotorGuide explains how you can easily get your lost driving license back without unnecessary hassle.

Required Documents

  • A valid and clear National Identity Card (NIC) or Passport
  • A police certificate obtained from the police station in the area where the license was lost
  • If the lost license was issued before 2009, a medical certificate from the National Transport Medical Institute (NTMI)
  • A medical certificate issued by NTMI (mandatory for processing)

You will then receive a printed application form with your details. The form has six sections (A–F), which you must fill in correctly before moving on.

The Second and Third Counters

At the second counter, your information will be computerized. Next, proceed to the accounts section to pay the renewal fee. Once payment is made, a new driving license will be issued under your name. Due to the current shortage of cards, licenses are sometimes issued on an A4 sheet, valid for one year, until the plastic card is available.

As you can see, getting back a lost driving license is a straightforward process if you prepar
