In Sri Lanka, a revenue license is essential to drive a vehicle. We have no right to drive a vehicle on the road without a revenue license. So, have you lost your revenue license? Or has your revenue license been damaged? Today, through MotorGuide, we're telling you how to get a lost or damaged revenue license reissued.

Details included in a vehicle license

Before re-obtaining a lost or damaged vehicle license, let's look at what details are included in a vehicle license. A vehicle license contains several important details related to the vehicle.

These are:

  • Date and year the revenue license expires
  • Vehicle model
  • Date of issue of the revenue license
  • Number of the emission test certificate
  • Vehicle number, license number
  • Date the revenue license commences
  • Name and address of the vehicle owner

Ways a vehicle license can get damaged

There are many ways a vehicle license can get damaged. When you service your vehicle, the license might get wet and tear. If the vehicle license is kept in the vehicle's cabin and animals like rats get to it, the license will be destroyed. Also, if small children are in the vehicle and get hold of the license, it's even harder to save it. Because if children get hold of something, they tear it up. Also, sometimes you might lose the license somewhere by mistake. These are the ways a vehicle license gets damaged. So, when you service your vehicle, you need to be careful about the vehicle license. And you also need to make sure to keep it somewhere children can't get to.

Is the lost or damaged license expired?

When reissuing a lost or damaged vehicle license, we first need to check when the license expires. If the vehicle license has already expired by now, the license needs to be issued for the next year. If you don't remember when your vehicle license expires, you can call the Divisional Secretariat office and find out when the license expires.

Documents required to re-obtain a vehicle license

When your revenue license is lost, you will need several documents to get a new one. Accordingly, for the vehicle:

  • Registration certificate
  • Vehicle insurance certificate
  • Vehicle fitness certificate
  • Vehicle emission test certificate

are required. So, you first need to prepare these documents required to obtain the revenue license.

What needs to be done?

The first thing you need to do is report the loss of the vehicle license to the police. After that, you need to take this police complaint and the other necessary documents to the Divisional Secretariat office. After going to the Divisional Secretariat office, you will be given a form. You need to fill this form completely and correctly. On this form, you need to fill in:

  • Vehicle number
  • Vehicle owner's name
  • Vehicle engine number
  • Date the revenue license was lost
  • Vehicle chassis number
  • Police station where the complaint was made
  • Date of complaint
  • Vehicle owner's name

Once you fill in this information correctly and submit it, you can obtain a new revenue license in place of the lost or damaged one.

This is how lost or damaged revenue licenses are reissued. If your revenue license is also lost, you must definitely pay attention to what we discussed today. If you do that, you can obtain a vehicle revenue license without any problems.
