Transportation services to be made essential services

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has once again issued a gazette notification declaring public transport services, including public transport services, as essential services.

It is reported that this gazette notification has been issued by Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake on the instructions of the President, effective from yesterday (13).

Accordingly, public transport services for the transport of passengers or goods have been declared essential services.

In addition, the relevant gazette states that the provision and maintenance of transport services by roads, bridges, culverts and railways, including roads and railways, are essential services.

Previously, on February 13, President Ranil Wickremesinghe had also declared these services as essential services through a gazette notification.
