Vehicle Import Cabinet Decisions — Sri Lanka

The Cabinet has approved a new proposal related to the import of electric vehicles by Sri Lankans working in foreign countries.
Approval was granted at the Cabinet meeting held on August 08, 2022, to implement a scheme to issue licenses for the import of full electric vehicles by Sri Lankans working abroad, through the transfer of foreign remittances via formal banking channels to licensed banks in Sri Lanka.
It was decided at the Cabinet meeting held on January 08 last month to extend the validity period of that scheme until June 30, 2024.
Accordingly, the President had submitted this proposal to present the Import and Export Regulations No. 02 of 2024, issued under the Import and Export Act No. 01 of 1969, for parliamentary approval, making provisions for the same.
