For anyone who owns a vehicle, a common question is where to get it serviced. However, some people do the necessary things at home without taking it to a special place for service. But it's difficult for us to do everything a service center does at home. So when getting a vehicle serviced at an external place, everyone tries to choose the best option. This is because some service centers subtly deceive their customers. That's why MotorGuide thought of informing you about how you might be tricked when servicing your vehicle.

Unnecessary Service Charges

Many service centers include charges for tasks they did not perform in the final bill given to the customer. For example, they might charge you an extra fee for 'Brake service labor.' Here, if brake pads are inspected, cleaned, and re-installed, it can be considered a fair charge. However, many people do not properly perform these tasks to save time. So, if you can stay near your vehicle until it is serviced, it will be fair to both your vehicle and your wallet.

Flushing and additives

Flushing the engine and radiator, and adding oil or fuel additives, is another tactic used by service centers to earn extra money. Often, service advisors ask customers to perform a radiator flush or add an additive to engine oil to 'increase its lifespan' or 'boost mileage'. While these additives can be beneficial in some cases, they are not always necessary for every service. Furthermore, they might try to sell you very expensive fuel additives available in the market, claiming that the car manufacturer recommends them, even if you don't need them. So, if you're going to a service center, don't forget to be mindful of this as well.

Car dry cleaning

Dry cleaning the car's interior is another way service centers earn extra money. Some cars with dirty seats and roof lining might require dry cleaning during servicing. However, some service centers try to persuade customers to get a dry clean even when it's not necessary. So, in such a situation, carefully consider if a dry clean is truly needed.

Waxing

If your car's exterior finish is old and dull, a wax polish is definitely needed. However, many service centers charge a significant amount for this. In reality, you can even wax it yourself at home.

So, always try to wax your vehicle yourself at home.

Engine decarbonizing and dressing

Engine decarbonizing is another way service centers unnecessarily charge money. Many service centers recommend engine decarbonizing every 15,000 or 20,000 kilometers. However, in reality, cars do not require engine decarbonizing for at least 50,000 kilometers.

Additionally, some service centers issue a separate bill for engine dressing. But all this does is give the engine a shine using silicone or oil spray.

So, this is how you are deceived and charged unnecessary money when servicing vehicles. Therefore, from today onwards, when you go to service your vehicle, go well-informed about it. Also, don't forget to pay attention to the service itself. Then you can avoid unnecessary deceptions.
