When driving a vehicle on the road, you must be extremely careful. Driving mistakes not only put your life at risk but also endanger other road users. By following essential safe driving tips, you can reduce accidents and ensure a smooth journey. Today, at MotorGuide, we share some practical vehicle tips every driver should know.

The Key Battery of the Vehicle

Many modern vehicles come with a smart start key system. These keys operate with a small battery, which can sometimes run out. If the battery dies, you can still start the car:

  • Remove the battery cover of the key fob.
  • Press the vehicle logo area against the start button.
  • Step on the brake and start the vehicle normally.

This works for many vehicles, including Toyota and Honda models. It’s a useful emergency tip if your key battery dies unexpectedly.

How to Hold the Steering Wheel

The correct way to hold the steering wheel is at the nine and three o’clock positions. This grip gives you better control of the vehicle compared to the outdated ten and two position. A proper grip improves road safety and reduces the chance of losing control.

Adjust the Front Mirror

The front (windshield) mirror helps you observe vehicles around you. Always adjust it so you have a clear view. If the mirror fogs up, use the defogger button on the dashboard to clear it quickly. Proper mirror adjustment improves visibility and reduces blind spots.

Adjust the Driver’s Seat

Before starting the vehicle, make sure your seat position is correct:

  • You should be able to fully press the pedals without strain.
  • Keep the seat slightly angled, not too far back.
  • Adjust the backrest so you sit upright and can see the road clearly.

A properly adjusted seat improves comfort and ensures better control of the vehicle.

Set the Side Mirrors Correctly

When adjusting the side mirrors:

  • Angle them slightly outward so you can see the lanes beside you.
  • The reflection of your own vehicle should be minimal.
  • Ensure you can spot approaching vehicles clearly.

Correct mirror positioning reduces blind spots and improves driving safety.

Use the Rear View Mirror at Night

When driving at night, the headlights of vehicles behind you may reflect off your rear view mirror and strain your eyes. To reduce glare, tilt the small lever beneath the mirror upward. This puts the mirror in “night mode,” making night driving safer and more comfortable.

Parking the Vehicle

Improper parking can damage the gearbox of automatic vehicles. Follow this method when parking:

  1. Shift the gear to D (Drive), then to Neutral.
  2. Engage the hand brake.
  3. Release the foot brake slightly so the car settles.
  4. Finally, shift into P (Park).

This prevents unnecessary strain on your gearbox and keeps your vehicle secure.

Activate the Child Safety Lock

If you are traveling with children, always use the child safety lock. It prevents doors from being opened from the inside, reducing the risk of accidents. The lock is usually located near the edge of the rear doors. Once engaged, the door can only be opened from the outside.

These vehicle safety tips are small steps that can make a big difference. From adjusting mirrors to using child locks, every precaution ensures a safer and more comfortable journey. Remember, safe driving protects not only you but also others on the road. Make these habits part of your daily routine and enjoy stress-free driving.
