Toll of death in Diyatalawa accident increases update
Seven people have lost their lives in an accident that occurred during the Diyatalawa Fox Hill Motor Racing Competition.
The police stated that 23 other people were injured in the accident and have been hospitalized for treatment.
The 2024 Fox Hill Motor Racing Competition began this morning at the Diyatalawa Nariakanda Racecourse.
This competition was held after 5 years.
The last time this race was held was on April 21, 2019, and the competition was stopped midway due to the Easter attacks.
Accordingly, the competition was not held for 5 years and it is reported that there was a large turnout for the competition this time.
The accident occurred when a car skidded off the track during the race that began this morning (21). It happened.
The police say that an 8-year-old girl is among the 7 people who died in the accident.
It is said that 4 runners also died in the accident.
Police Media Spokesperson DIG Attorney-at-Law Nihal Thalduwa stated that steps were taken to stop the race following the accident.
